Keeping true to my intention of a home with lots of windows so the sunlight can bathe me, a yard where the birds and animals find sanctuary and a dream garden of flowers planted by all that is nature. I am grounded when I look at this painting. I can smell the soil, the fragrance of each bloom, and feel the energy of life!

Birds are my joy. Feeding them is such a gift I am given every morning. Their songs, their gift of making each day pure quality knowing it might be their last inspires me to give thanks and praise-for each day is miraculous! This painting is my tribute to the birds - they know how to live!

I love Phoenix Arizona. My best memories are driving my CJ5 in the spring with the orange blossoms scent in the air, my sundress catching the wind, exposing my left leg as it’s propped up on the edge of the jeep frame. There is something about the desert that makes me appreciate our diverse, complex, blessed earth; the extremes, the determination and richness in every grain of sand. I feel free and yet stable when I look at this painting. This is one of a series of “Views from My Porch”.

Holed up on my couch healing, I imagined a rooster. Intrigued, I decided to go against doctors orders of keeping my leg elevated and try to paint again. As I painted the sunrise behind him, I began to laugh. There I saw this rooster strolling through the flowers, intoxicated by the surroundings like Tiny Tim tip toeing through the tulips carefree and high…on the energy, turning quickly with a startled awareness saying “Whoa! Sunrise already? $%#@!”

Breaking my ankle in January woke me to the fact that I am alone-I live alone. No family or children to care for me or I for them. I have always depended on myself for everything and the broken ankle pushed me to seek help. That too was hard to come by in this busy world we live in. Being alone meant I had to quickly learn to do things for myself as I didn’t have anyone close by to care for me 24/7, so I dealt and it left me drained, hurting, frightened and disappointed in myself and my world. The past 3 months, as I heal, I longed for comfort, for a knowing that I am not alone especially when I am at my weakest and lack the energy to ask. I’ve been working on my intentions; I began to paint, and she came to be…my comfort. To look in her eyes, I find the comfort and calm I am longing for.

I had to break out of my comfort zone. I was repeating what had already been done. This painting, I dug deeper into “allowing” and found a combination of colors and flowers that was inspired from the Washington DC cherry blossom TV news coverage, now if I could only get the smell of cherry blossom to go with it.

I have been seeking home. It seems so many people when ask where home is—they can answer without hesitation. The answer eluded me. On a Saturday as the HVAC tech worked on the system at my house, this angel came to reside on the canvas. I look at her and I feel home. A friend recently saw it saying it’s a self portrait. That was one of those powerful ah ha moments- home resides in me. Home is where the heart is...to borrow an adage of the years.

My first big painting. My life before this painting was big. I was successful in my own right, but never felt it. I fought those small feelings, took the 48” x 60” canvas and painted the biggest brightest flowers the canvas would handle. All that energy, all that courage, all those desires are alive in this painting.

Commentary by Elizabeth Marie:
I painted this in anticipation of an upcoming trip to Hawaii for a Huna Training course. As I tapped into my feelings about the trip, this is what emerged. Enjoy, Aloha!
Elizabeth Marie has continuously transformed her life through her art whether
it be with canvas, cloth, ceramic, mosaic, photography, performance or writing.
It wasn’t until 2008 when she took the Energy Empath and Inner Mastery Programs
did she realize how deeply affected she is by her world.
“My canvas paintings began from a life change in 2003; my marriage ended, my community service empty, my art-based business unrewarding. All these emotions and disappointments on top of the unrealized gift of being an empath drove the colors of my soul onto the canvas. I took the one thing that I was secure with and brought it into the world with unabashed exuberance”.
Elizabeth’s art was mainly driven with a focus on reproducing wallpaper patterns or designs on tiles, sinks, platters or walls for clients. Now, given the space to create without boundaries, she works in her studio painting through her journey. Each painting begins with the background color: builds layer by layer, stroke by stroke, detail upon detail until it is signed. She never knows what colors will be chosen, but dutifully trusts the guidance given. Elizabeth’s style is truly guided by Soul.
“I never know what Spirit has in store for my next painting. I sit in front of the canvas with a paint brush in hand and before I can blink, my face is lit with joy. Each painting moves me in someway: laughter, comfort, passion, playfulness… and I am always excited to see it completed. It’s like being in God’s museum-I’m awed and humbled.”
